A bit of Gucci history

Gucci was started in 1921 by Guccio Gucci in Florence, Italy. Among his cliental, there was a substantial demand for riding gear and this led to many equestrian inspired collections and symbols including the horsebit icon and the green and red web stripe. Other famous Gucci symbols include the burnished bamboo handle which was an innovative 1940's solution to wartime shortages of materials, their signature Diamante Canvas, the Flora print which as originally designed for a silk scarf for Princess Grace of Monaco, the Jackie O shoulder bag made famous by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and the interlocking Double G pattern which has been used in various forms over the years.

Gucci expanded opening stores worldwide, but still maintaining all manufacturing in Italy. It was a family owned business passing from father to sons until 1982 when it became a public limited company. Substantial ownership still remained in the family until an investment group gradually bought up shares of the company from the late 1980's to the early 1990's.

Today, Gucci is considered one of the most desirable luxury brands in the world. They have established themselves as a trendsetting and sophisticated fashion authority and continued to hold the values of quality, exclusiveness and Italian craftsmanship. They like to pair modernity and heritage as seen in the reintroduction of the Bamboo bag and the Jackie O, restyled as the New Bamboo and the New Jackie. They have expanded greatly from the original leather items to include modern accessories, jewelry, clothing and even a children's line.

What are Gucci items worth?

We understand that before you bring in or mail in your items you will have concerns on the value.

In addition to how rare or common a piece is, several other factors will affect the value.

  • Condition of the piece. While a used piece is no longer considered mint, many will still hold value. Check your items carefully for condition. First check visually for condition, marks, completeness and wear. Then check for functionality of zippers and clasps. Not all damage is readily seen at first glance.

  • Condition of the box and packaging. The highest value of course will come with mint and clean items that have perfect original box as well as all of the original packaging, dust covers, tags and inserts.

  • Size of the piece. Generally the larger ones are more valuable than the smaller ones.

  • Detail. Generally the more detail and features the more valuable the item will have.

    What we pay

Generally, our goal is to pay half the estimated resale value for items that resell for $25 or more. We buy all kinds of handbags both with and without original boxes. The condition of both the packaging and the item will of course affect its value.

    How our buying process works

We are not a consignment business. We buy your items outright.

If your want to bring them in, we recommend that you Make an Appointment , so that we can have a buyer available to help you. There is no need to list your items, but if you have more than one brand or product line it helps to sort them that way. Our buyer will go through your items, give you pricing and in most cases get a check cut for you during your appointment. More expensive bags and brands that are heavily counterfeited may take more time. We may take a series of photos of the item to use to verify authenticity.

If like most people, you wish to mail them in, please take a look at our authenticity page. If you did not purchase them directly from a high end retailer, it is a good idea to give your bags a quick check for some obvious known characteristics of common counterfeits. After that, please fill out our form to get things started and let us know your items are coming. If you have enough to qualify for free shipping, we will get prepaid UPS labels to you. While items usually arrive with no problems, we occasionally have items arrive damaged. We are NOT RESPONSIBLE for lost or damaged packages. If you prefer, you are welcome to insure and ship them with the carrier of your choice at your expense, but please fill out the form anyway and include the words "self shipped" in your item description. That way we will be sure to have accurate information for sending your check.

Once your items arrive, we will process them and mail a check to you within five business days. Please remember that once we drop the check in the mail, the amount of time to deliver the check is in the hands of the postal service. If you want to know exactly when your items arrive, please note your tracking numbers on the prepaid UPS labels and go to www.ups.com to track them.
